Can you provide a home for Toby?

Toby is a very friendly, young, playful and handsome Brindle Pit Bull Terrier who is available for adoption. He’s approximately 1 or 2 years old, seems to be great with kids and other dogs. It’s unknown yet if he gets along well with cats. He already knows certain commands and will do almost anything for a treat! He was found as a stray in Edmonds. He will need to be neutered before going home with you.

His adoption fee to the City of Edmonds is $65 with an additional fee to the kennel facility. Toby is a delight and would make a great pet and companion. You can meet him at: Paws In Paradise (formally known as Adix), 21100 72nd Ave. W., Edmonds, WA or call 425-778-1475 to find out more about him.

  1. I am still awaiting the news from this news source of whose partial pit bull attacked an older woman and killed her small dog on Sunset Avenue a couple months ago. We have read no story on this and I thought I understood that the police had been contacted. As many people in Edmonds own smaller dogs, I thought this would be news worhy .

I hope the person that adopts this dog is well aware of some of the things that can unfold with certain breeds and pit bulls with the type of jaws they have. Today, on national news in West Virginia, there was an article about a man who evidently had a heartattack and the person trying to give aid to him was killed by the man’s pit bull. Also, the same article mentioned a recent killing of a very young child by a pit bull. The news article is on national news, and locally out of West Virginia.

People write a lot that it has a lot to do with the owners of these dogs and how they train or abuse the (chain up, etc), but that is no consolation after someone is dead, and there seems to be many, many cases regarding pit bulls and unpritictability that I have read about through the years.

I think I would need more information than “seems to be great with kids” particularily if no one knows the history of the dog or where he came from, with all due respect to Paws

  2. There is so much misunderstanding about pit bulls, otherwise known as Staffordshire Terriers. My son and daughter were very young with a pit bull in the home. She had never been raised to fight, was a very gentle soul and even when my toddler sat on her and pulled on her ear, if she wasn’t willing to tolerate it, she would just get up and move away. Sometimes this breed is raised to fight, and that is unfortunate. If not, like any other breed raised to be a family pet, they are wonderful. So yes, my pit bull was great with kids because she didn’t know anything different. She was patient, loving and wonderful. We loved her and mourned her loss at the end. It’s not the dog. It’s the owners. Do not blame the breed.

  3. You bring up many valid points, Tere. No one should adopt a dog without giving thought to the time they can devote to the dog and whether the breed characteristics fit their lifestyle and capabilities. Not all pit bulls are violent, just as not all small breeds are gentle. Toby has been at the shelter since February 15th and according to the staff, he’s friendly and would make a great pet. I would hope that the potential adopters of Toby will be able to assess if he is a good match for them.

  4. Toby is now in foster care, until he finds his forever home. If interested, please contact Paws In Paradise!
