She lost her son Steven in Iraq. The folks in the photo with me are Gold Star dads Joe Colgan (lost his son Ben in Iraq) and Mike Milam (lost his son Charles Luke Milam in Iraq). Luke actually hs a building named after him at the Everett Navy base. The photo was taken at the General Douglas MacArthur Award last night at the Lynnwood Elks. It is the 48th year this award has been presented to someone from Snohomish County with military experience. The Award, along with its Metal, is the only one of its kind across the Country and as it says on the Award, it is awarded by the Elks of America, and presented by the Lynnwood Elks. The General's wife, 48 years ago gave her permission to use her husbands name and image on the award. This photo was taken by Gold Star Mother Myra Rintamaki from Lynnwood, who lost her son Stephen in Iraq.

  1. Michael, you are well-deserving of this honor. Thank you for your continued service and selflessness to the families of those who have sacrificed it all.

  2. We were privileged to be present when Mike was given this well-deserved award. For those who aren’t aware of it, Mike does these portraits, without charge, for the military families. He pays for it with donations, and many times, his own money.
