Letter to editor: Donations sought for fire station sign honoring Betty Mueller

Dear Editor:

On Tuesday evening, the Edmonds City Council unanimously passed a motion naming Fire Station 16 on 196th S.W. after long-time city activist Betty Mueller.

For those of you who knew Betty, nothing else needs to be said. You may remember that Betty was the primary force behind the bond issue that raised $10 million to build the current Public Safety buildings, which include the police station, two fire stations and our courthouse. Betty was a great friend to the police officers and firemen and to virtually anybody of good character that needed a friend.

Betty founded the Firefighters Foundation, the Police Foundation and was largely responsible for the start up of ACE — Alliance of Citizens for Edmonds.

A fund has been created at Union Bank, 123 3rd Ave S., to collect $3,000 for the sign in front of the fire station. If you would like to donate, please send a check made out to the Betty Mueller dedication fund. Or give it to Rich Demeroutis or David Page, co-chairs.

  1. Betty Mueller was a wonderful lady and truly a passionate and loving citizen of Edmonds. I was privileged to have known her and to have helped her at her request in trying to establish a military museum in Edmonds. She had heard of a great collector of military memorabilia and asked me to contact him and also contact the VFW and the American Legion which I did. The collection was fabulous and could easily have filled up a large hall and brought many visitors to Edmonds. Betty and I had many meetings but unfortunately I could not find a suitable hall for the collection. Sadly, it all went to a military museum in Hawaii. I guess no one knows about this “Betty Mueller’s” project. I am delighted to see her name recognized and honored by naming a fire hall in her honor. Well deserved.
