“We were called around 6 p.m. for a parasurfer in distress near the ferry dock,” Hines said. “We deployed Marine 16 (fire rescue boat) from the marina. The ferry crew also deployed a rescue boat. Ferry crew pulled the parasurfer from the water and met up with Marine 16. Marine 16 brought the parasurfer ashore. He was uninjured. I think he was just tired and out too far to get back in on his own.”

A reader pointed out that date and day didn’t match up. We have fixed that to indicate the incident occurred Friday, March 27.
A perfect example of needing good emergency access west of the tracks 24/7. What if the crossings had been blocked by a train? This incident might still have been OK, but someday there may well be a tragedy if the crossings are blocked, even for a short time.
Mr Caldwell stated it perfectly, emergency access should be discussed more and a plan should be put in place. Sitting ducks..
