Smiling faces packed Holy Rosary School’s gymnasium Friday as community leader and long-time assistant priest at Holy Rosary Parish, Father Joe Petosa, was honored by Holy Rosary students and staff with a special award from the American Heart Association.
The students raised $3,124 in Petosa’s name during their annual “Jump Rope For Hearts” charity event, which will go toward research and education for heart disease through the American Heart Association. Petosa has battled several ailments, including heart disease, for years. Despite being retired, he still regularly assists Father Kenneth Haydock with masses and events at Holy Rosary parish.
“Father Petosa has been an inspiration to us all,” says Holy Rosary School Principal Sue Venable. “We couldn’t think of a more deserving person to honor with the funds being raised by our ‘Jump Rope For Hearts’ program.”
Petosa is an Edmonds resident and member of the Petosa family who ran the popular Petosa’s grocery store in downtown Edmonds for decades. He was joined at the school ceremony by his sister-in-law, Karen Petosa.
