Westgate zoning again on Edmonds City Council agenda Tuesday night

Proposed zoning changes in the Westgate commercial area that could ultimately allow mixed-use development and two- to four-story buildings will come before the Edmonds City Council for possible action Tuesday night, April 7.

Councilmembers spent much of their study session on March 25 talking about what to do next about a proposed rezone of Westgate. According to the agenda for this Tuesday’s business meeting, the council will review the Edmonds Planning Board’s recommendation for the proposed Westgate building types and areas, and will also look at recommendations from the State Route 104 traffic analysis.

The agenda also includes a five-page document aimed at addressing recent Westgate-related questions asked by councilmembers. You can review that document here.

The council is also scheduled to:

– Be briefed on the progress of the Marina Beach Master Plan, and weigh in on program components and alignment options at Marina Beach Park in light of the city’s plan to restore Willow Creek to become a more natural, above-ground stream. The city has identified two potential above-ground routes for Willow Creek to connect Edmonds Marsh to Puget Sound through the park. You can read more about this process in our earlier report here.

– Hear a presentation on possible approaches to issuing new bonds needed to support capital programs in the city’s water, sewer and storm utility construction funds.

– Review and approve city’s updated Strategic Action Plan and adopt the implementation report.

The council will meet at 6:45 p.m. to interview Patrick Sweeney, a candidate for appointment to the Edmonds Sister City Commission, followed by its regular meeting starting at 7 p.m. At the end of the meeting, councilmembers are also scheduled to convene in executive session regarding pending or potential litigation.

The meeting will be in the council chambers, 250 5th Ave. N., Seattle. You can see the complete agenda here.
