Edmonds City Councilmember Diane Buckshnis announced Wednesday that she will seek another term on the city council.

“It has been an honor to represent Edmonds citizens for the past six years, helping ensure our community remains this special place we call home,” Buckshnis said, “I’m proud of my record addressing financial accountability and transparency, community services and the arts, environmental sustainability, and economic vitality.”

A retired banker, Buckshnis was first appointed to fill the Position 4 seat in January 2009 following the death of Councilmember Peggy Pritchard Olson. She was elected to retain the seat in November 2011.

In an announcement sent Wednesday, Buckshnis listed the following accomplishments during her tenure: “improving city financial policies and oversight; recommitting the Edmonds Senior Center for its rebuild; garnering support for Edmonds Marsh restoration and protecting environmentally sensitive areas; advocating progressive steps toward addressing transportation and safety issues; enhancing economic potential while most importantly keeping Edmonds traditional values and character.”

Buckshnis and her husband Steve have lived in Edmonds for 14 years. She is actively involved in various volunteer causes, serving as a board member for the Edmonds Senior Center; treasurer for Off-Leash Area Edmonds, which runs the waterfront dog park; as the YMCA and CASA gift-giving program liaison for the Edmonds Rotary; as an audit committee member for the Edmonds Floretum Garden Club and as a volunteer for the Edmonds Art Festival.

“My civic involvement helps further my connection and commitment to our community,” Buckshnis said. “I appreciate the feedback I receive from Edmonds citizens because it helps me understand diverse perspectives and enables me to better represent the entire community, which is my goal. With your continued support, I’m looking forward to working for the betterment of our community.”
