Major Remodel Whole House Excellence, Less than $300K

This 1947 Seattle bungalow had sentimental value to a partner who had raised a family there. To maximize the views of Puget Sound, add contemporary style, and provide better entryway transition, the home was gutted and refreshed with new finishes and windows providing a sweeping view. The stairway and railing includes an iron framework hidden by woodwork. Mechanical updates were made throughout the home, along with new lighting, masonry, doors, windows, trim and molding, and a gas fireplace. An expanded kitchen floor integrates the dining and living rooms. The master five-piece master bathroom, landscaping, and exterior design were also beautifully updated.

Bathroom Excellence, Less than $30K

This is a spa-like master bath, was designed to have the “calming sense of a slow river’s course.” It brings comfort, style, safety and convenience inside a very limited 44.7 square feet. We removed everything, reframed, and reallocated fixtures. A new shower with a frameless glass enclosure plus a pocket door between the bathroom and master suite were also installed. From the master suite a door and small porch offers the ability to step outside for fresh air. Natural finishes were placed, including Clay Lappato and Ivory porcelain tile plus Rivera polished cobblestone and Clay Pebble quartz accents. A fountain faucet with vessel sink set, Euro-style vanity and linen cabinets, harmonious colors, and soft, defused light work together to provide an exceptional experience.

Entire House, $300K – $500K

This 1930s retreat was largely demolished and it was time to maximize its view. The clients wanted permanence and style akin to Southern coastal beach homes they’d admired. A covered bridge/entry provides access to the spacious foyer, leading to an open living room and southern style covered porch. The lower level includes a kitchen dining room, family room, updated three-piece bathroom, walk-in pantry, and another covered porch-that transverses the kitchen and dining room.

The kitchen window looks out over the lake and a red brick masonry BBQ station. It’s topped with granite, below it is a beverage refrigerator, and storage. Using the gas BBQ, and circular EVO, the chef can toss pancakes at daybreak or turn kabobs and burgers for a crowd — in any weather!

A balanced scale and the geometric design touches create a refined coastal-style home.

Get Away Room – (Music Space)

Some men crave a “Man Cave,” hidden far away from the main part of the home, but Chermak’s client requested a cozy, comfortable place where he could make music to share with family and the many guests they entertained.

Having a central music room was a practical way to have live music pulse from the center of the home. Because the room was part of a whole house remodel, it was the perfect time to dream.

New uses for the spaces could be imagined and made possible. We created a place where our musician client can ratchet up his practice sessions in perfect comfort; he also has a central space to create the music that drifts through the home at parties.

Carpeting, and the wood burning fireplace were removed. The popcorn ceiling was gutted to the studs. The brick fireplace façade was kept and within 180 square feet (13’ x 14’), the oasis was carved out.

Chermak went back in with new drywall, and trim molding. A monochromatic color palate with ivory and gray set the perfect backdrop for the bright Moroccan spice colors the well-traveled family love.
