snoislelibraryWith the main venue for TEDxSnoIsleLibraries already full, 10 community library viewing sites have been added for the Nov. 6 event.

“The registration response has been amazing. Both the formal theater and casual viewing seats at the Edmonds Center for the Arts have been spoken for,” said TEDx organizer and Sno-Isle Libraries Communications Director Ken Harvey.

“We have set up simulcast viewing sites for that Friday to accommodate the tremendous interest,” he said. “People there will be able to watch the talks in real time, connect with other attendees, and discuss what they have heard.”

The event will be simulcast to libraries at Edmonds, Camano Island, Coupeville, Darrington, Freeland, Granite Falls, Lynnwood, Marysville, Monroe and Snohomish.

Anyone interested in attending a library viewing group should register online at sno-isle.org/tedx/attend. People can also go to that Web page to get on the waitlist for Edmonds Center for the Arts seats.

The day-long event, “Creating New Futures,” will feature speakers from the region and beyond who have “ideas worth spreading.”

Starting in September, speakers and performers will be announced at sno-isle.org/tedx, via TEDxSnoIsleLibraries on Twitter and on the Sno-Isle Libraries Facebook page, Harvey added.

“TEDx is known for inspirational presentations by high-caliber speakers,” he said. “Our audiences, wherever they are, won’t be disappointed.”

TED stands for technology, entertainment, and design. It is the name of a non-profit foundation devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED conferences and TED Talks have become a global phenomenon.

TEDx events are local independently organized under license from TED. Some of the best TEDx presentations are featured on TED.com and garner millions of views.

TED and TEDx events are often filled to capacity. The solution has been to offer live group viewing at alternate locations, Harvey said.

“In our case, people may also find it more convenient to travel to their community library,” he said. “Plus, children are welcome in the libraries while the main venue is restricted to audience members age 14 and older.”
