We’ve learned more about the injuries received by former Edmonds City Councilmeber Ron Wambolt during a car-pedestrian collision in Edmonds last Friday, Sept. 25.
In an email Monday, Wambolt said that he was hit by a car Friday afternoon while he and his wife Shirley were in the crosswalk on 15th Street at State Route 104/Edmonds. Fortunately, Shirley Wambolt was not hit, but Wambolt received a gash in his forehead that required several stiches, and two black eyes.
“I spent Friday and Saturday nights at Harborview Hospital,” said Wambolt, who is now at home and resting comfortably. Wambolt, who served on the council from 2006-2010, added he recalls very little about the incident. “EMS took me to Swedish Edmonds, but after some tests they concluded that I could be better treated at Harborview,” he said.
Edmonds police are still investigating the collision and will have more information Tuesday, according to Edmonds police spokesman Sgt. Shane Hawley.
I hope you make a speedy recovery Ron.
Hi Ron,
Our family is very happy that you are recovering and at home resting comfortably. We hope that all goes as well as can be expected and you heal quickly. Thank goodness that Shirley was not hit.
Stephen
Yet another car-pedestrian accident in Edmonds, I believe the third in less than a year. Unlike the other two, this one did not involve a fatality.
Has the Edmonds PD analyzed the three accidents with an eye towards what they did/did not have in common in order to prevent future accidents of this type?
This is a very dangerous intersection – and used frequently by children going to and from school at Sherwood Elementary. There should be a passover on this intersection
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Ron.
Ron,
Glad that your are ok and on the mend
It was shortly before that that we chatted in front of Chester’s house. Edmonds won’t be the same until you & Shirley are back strolling the sidewalks of Edmonds. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Ron, good thing you weren’t more seriously hurt, and that Shirley was not hit.
It is our observation that crosswalks do not mean anything to many drivers in Edmonds. Around the post office, it’s like a game of dodge ball. Cars coming off the ferry race up the street all the time.
While I don’t know how this accident was caused, I agree with the response above that this is a very dangerous intersection. I witness drivers running the red light traveling west on 104 often, likely doing this to try to make the ferry. Given it’s near an elementary school and used by children to cross, I would support either a red light camera here or more police attention. I hope the gentleman injured makes a swift recovery.
Be well. Sorry to hear about your accident, Ron! Prayers go out to you for a speedy recovery.
Ron. Very sorry to hear about your accident. You really need to pick your fights more carefully. Joking aside, glad to hear you are home and recovering. See you back at the gym……………
Ron, best wishes for speedy recovery so you and Shirley can get back walking again.
