The National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) announced that Edmonds City Council President Adrienne Fraley-Monillas has been named a 2015 Elected Women of Excellence Award Winner.

According to the NFWL announcement, the award was created “to identify women who have worked tirelessly, often breaking down barriers and overcoming obstacles that once seemed insurmountable, to serve their communities. These pacesetters have engendered an environment where women can now serve in public office and fight for the issues they are passionate about.”

Delaware Representative Helene Keeley, NFWL’s chair elect, presented the award to Fraley-Monillas and other 2015 Women of Excellence winners Sept. 14 during the organization’s 2015 Annual Conference in Oklahoma City.

“Part of the spirit of NFWL is that we take time to recognize the significant achievements of the women around us and we are delighted to recognize this year’s honorees,” Keeley said,

Fraley-Monillas, who has served six years on the Edmonds City Council, has participated on numerous Snohomish County boards/commissions “with a collaborative approach to giving input on how to provide best services to people with developmental disabilities, mental illness, public health, homelessness, seniors, children, low income housing, education and alternative transportation for those housebound individuals,” the NFWL announcement said.

The winners were nominated by their colleagues and constituents from their home states and then chosen by a panel of NFWL members.

“We celebrate the resilient leadership qualities, focused work ethic, and determination these women have and look forward to sharing their future successes,” Keeley said.
