Prep football notebook: Injured Meadowdale player all right after scare, released from hospital

mavs-logoMeadowdale senior co-captain Bailey Walsh, who was injured during Friday’s game against Lake Stevens at Edmonds Stadium, was released from the hospital later that night, according to Mavericks coach Matt Leonard.

Walsh was taken from the field on a stretcher with a neck brace and transported to the hospital late in the fourth quarter of a 49-21 loss.

In an email, Leonard wrote that “All scans came back negative. Just some neck stiffness. It was all precautionary and he’ll likely play this week.”

Meadowdale opens league play against district rival Mountlake Terrace at 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11 at Edmonds Stadium. The Hawks edged Mariner 34-31.

Mountlake Terrace alum Devante Downs scored his first touchdown as a member of the California Golden Bears football team. Downs, a sophomore linebacker, returned an interception 8 yards for a TD during the first quarter of Cal’s 73-14 victory over Grambling State on Saturday.
