Once again, the Phoenix Theater Company delivers two hours of great fun and clever comedy, with “One Slight Hitch.” If laughter is the best medicine, we all left much healthier than when we walked in.

The setting is 1981 Cincinnati in the home of Doc (Keith Dahlgren), Delia (Melanie Calderwood) and their three grown daughters, P.B. (Rebekah Dawn), Courtney (Elizabeth Adkisson) and Melanie (Simone Barron). The other cast members are Jordon Fermstad and J. Woody Lotts, but I’m leaving out their characters on purpose – no spoiler alert here!

The story is as much about Courtney’s harrowing wedding day as it is about the political, social and cultural tectonic shift of the early 1980s. Lewis Black captures the upheaval of that era through hilarious dialogue and actions that are delivered by a superb cast. It was impossible to pick a favorite character or line.

It’s playing now through Nov. 1, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.. To really round out the evening, have dinner at the delicious Caravan Kebab right next door at Firdale Village.

Seven of us joined the others in this packed House last night. We were all in agreement that “One Slight Hitch” is a winner and not to be missed. This Edmonds jewel, the Phoenix Theater, really out did themselves this time.

So glad this is the beginning of another great season!
