Letter to the editor: Why I’m supporting Dave Teitzel for Edmonds City Council

Editor:

If I had to sum up Dave in one word it would be “Solid.” Solid but also with a big heart and deep commitment to give back. And if that were not enough, he plays keyboard in a Blues/R&B Band, or did before he took on the daunting task of running for public office.

His website will provide you with the details but I’d like to point out that he is a true Independent politically, does his homework on the issues diligently and follows his convictions passionately.

The theme of his campaign is “Be included.” He means that. How do I know? Because he has spent 10-14 hours a day since January (his wife Kathy can verify) reaching out to voters, community members, organizations, elected officials and city staff. He’s met with dozens of people and doorbelled 5,000 homes and will continue until the election.

He has a remarkable broad base of support including State Reps. Strom Peterson, Cindy Ryu and Ruth Kagi who are Democrats, but also Mayor Dave Earling and former County Councilmember Gary Nelson, both Republicans. He’s backed by the Firefighters Local #1828 and Edmonds Police Association, Washington Conservation Voters and the Cascade Bicycle Club. His complete list is impressive for a first-time candidate. Ninety percent of his supporters are Edmonds residents.

He’s earned this support the old-fashioned way, meeting with people from all sectors of our community, doing his homework, doing more listening than talking and being careful, thorough and honest.

If Dave has not yet knocked on your door, I know he would be happy to schedule time to meet you. You’ll find him very approachable, open-minded, progressive and willing to listen… to everyone.
