Just in time for the weekend, the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau is offering a new edition of the “Snohomish County Hiking Guide,” a brochure that features 30 hikes from beach walks to wilderness explorations. The guide describes the hikes in detail, including driving directions, topographical maps and a handy chart that lists each hike’s round-trip distance, easy-to-difficult rating, elevation gain, best season to hike it, and closest community.

The fourth edition of the Hiking Guide features several new trails, such as the Sultan River Canyon Trail and Japanese Gulch Loop, a couple of multi-day hikes on the Pacific Crest Trail, and hikes in the Suiattle River Valley that recently opened after being closed for 12 years. Also included are local resources and a list of accommodations for those who want to plan an overnight getaway around hiking.

The 30 hikes capture the full scope of hiking destinations within Snohomish County: beaches, scenic rivers, old-growth forests, alpine lakes, wildflower meadows, mountain tops, wildlife preserves, historic sites and impressive waterfalls. There are also several easy walks such as Spencer Island near Everett and the Nakashima Barn-Centennial Trail.

The Hiking Guide is authored by Craig Romano for the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau.
