Starting the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 28 at Alderwood Mall, Alderwood-Terrace Rotary will kick off the 27th year of collecting and distributing toys and clothing to those in need during the holidays.
The Sharing Tree started in 1988 in the toy department of Sears. Club members and friends of Rotary who staff The Sharing Tree collect new toys and clothing. Donations are primarily distributed to families who are eligible for food stamps or whose children are eligible for subsidized lunches.
The annual collection is approximately 1,500-2,000 items. At an estimated $10 per item, the club has distributed over $460,000 in toys and clothing over the years.
What a great organization. I think the table will be near Macy’s mall entrance this year. They usually also collect for senior citizens.
