Edmonds Community College scholarship recipients met donors at Thursday’s Breakfast With Champions. The EdCC Foundation event included a heartfelt thanks from student recipient Lori Munro, who used her scholarship for a second chance to move forward.
President Jean Hernandez lauded scholarship winners, and encouraged attendees to use education as a way to change lives. Woodway Mayor Carla Nichols spoke about being motivated by her Gramps to be the first in her family to get a college education.
The powerful effect of scholarships was summed up by a 2015 scholarship recipient in the program: “I enrolled at Edmonds Community College specifically in the Information Technology curriculum so that I not only could bring myself out of homelessness and poverty, but also educate myself in a relevant industry which would afford me a decent life. Your scholarship will help me greatly with the costs of tuition, lab fees and books (in particular)! I can’t thank you enough for the opportunity you’ve given me.” – Evan B.
