Calling all volunteers: Grab your gloves and a raincoat and join EarthCorps’ Puget Sound Stewards and Friends of the Edmonds Marsh this fall to plant native trees and shrubs around town.

Puget Sound Stewards and Friends of Edmonds Marsh, with support from the Hazel Miller Foundation and City of Edmonds, are working with local volunteers to improve habitat at three sites that support wildlife and improve filtration of stormwater before it enters Puget Sound. All events run from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and include:

Wednesday, Nov. 4,  at the Edmonds Marsh, which provides a space for local and migrant birds to nest and feed and filters rain water running off nearby streets before it drains into Puget Sound.

Saturday, Nov. 14, at Brackett’s Landing North, just north of the ferry terminal, which is home to shorebirds and small mammals. Volunteers will be planting native beach plants to enhance habitat for these wildlife. Future goals for this site include a narrated walking path of shoreline habitats for park visitors to enjoy.

Saturday, Dec. 5,  Edmonds Backyard Wildlife Native Plant Demo Garden (located at the Willow Creek hatchery). Volunteers will be planting native trees and shrubs in the phase two area of the demo garden.

EarthCorps supplies gloves, tools, water, light refreshments and volunteer education. No prior experience necessary. Events run  rain or shine, so bring appropriate layers and raingear/sun wear if needed. All unaccompanied volunteers between the ages of 16 and 17 must bring a filled out Youth Waiver the day of the event. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

All volunteers are asked to RSVP so there are enough tools for everyone. Sign up EarthCorps website: www.earthcorps.org/volunteer or contact Sean Walters, Volunteer Coordinator, at 206-322-9296, Ext 217.
