Edmonds CC Board of Trustees gains two members

Dr. Benson Tolle has been appointed to the Edmonds Community College Board of Trustees and will serve until Sept. 2020.
Omar Abdulla is a new student trustee and will serve until June 2016.

Gov.Jay Inslee has appointed two new members to the Edmonds Community College Board of Trustees.

Benson Tolle will serve a term that will run through Sept. 2020. She replaces Board Member Dick Van Hollebeke, who finished his term in September.

Tolle is the Director of Advanced Materials at Boeing and has extensive work history in aerospace materials and engineering. She has also worked at NASA’s Johnson Space Center as a flight crew instructor and held several technical leadership positions at the Air Force Research Laboratory.

“I’m very pleased about Gov. Inslee’s appointment of Dr. Benson Tolle to our board,” said Jean Hernandez, president of Edmonds Community College. “Her accomplishments in the STEM field is a clear representation of her leadership and I’m confident she will be an inspiration to our students.”

Omar Abdulla was appointed to be a new student trustee through June 2016. He replaces Student Trustee Girish Chummun.

Abdulla is a member of the Associated Students of Edmonds Community College. He says he is dedicated to contributing to the college’s inclusive environment. Outside of the college, Abdulla is a part-time sports instructor at the Dale Turner YMCA in Shoreline.

The Edmonds Community College Board of Trustees is made up of six members appointed by the governor. All members except the student trustee serve a five-year term.

Edmonds Community College is one of two colleges in the state to have a student trustee program.

“I’m very proud of our board for establishing the student trustee position and having a student at the table with them,” Hernandez said.
