Prep boys basketball: Meadowdale shocks Terrace in 54-50 win

mavs logoDuring a game in which they never trailed, the Meadowdale Mavericks shocked the Wesco League South Conference-leading Mountlake Terrace Hawks 54-50 Tuesday night at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Meadowdale started the game on a 12-0 run, then kept the Hawks at bay for the remainder of the Wesco League South match-up. Terrace did pull to within one point at 50-49 in the final minute, but Mavericks Drew Tingstad and Nathan Heilpap each went 2-for-2 from the foul line in the final 3.3 seconds to secure the victory.

Four Mavericks scored in double figures. Harry White led Meadowdale’s balanced attack with 13 points, Heilpap scored 12 points, Tingstad added 11 points and Lee Bruemmer contributed 10 points. Terrace’s Derek Anyimah had a game-high 21 points. Gabe Altenberger scored 13 points in the losing effort.

After a 9-2 start to the season, Mountlake Terrace had risen to No. 5 in the Seattle Times State 3A boys basketball rankings, but will likely fall out of the poll after Tuesday’s loss.

Meadowdale’s impressive road victory gives the squad momentum as they head into their rematch with rival Edmonds-Woodway on Tuesday, Jan. 19. The Mavericks lost big to the Warriors, 90-58, on Dec. 12.
