The City of Edmonds Fishing Pier will be closed to the public from March 14 through June of this year for repairs and renovations to the popular yet aging structure.
You can see our earlier story here for background.
Located north of the Edmonds Marina, the fishing pier is almost 40 years old. The concrete support structures between the deck and the pilings are in need of repair. Railings, railing anchorages, shelters, windbreaks, benches, light fixtures and the fish-cleaning station roofs and plumbing will be replaced, along with the existing water service line. Railing supports and light poles will receive new protective coatings and a new information kiosk and weather station will be installed. The restroom will receive minor HVAC and electrical upgrades, but the restroom will remain open to the public.
During construction, the city does not anticipate any road or walkway closures, but construction staging will take up the east half of the parking lot north of Dayton Street and west of Railroad Avenue. The west half of the parking lot will remain open to the public.
“Renovating this popular public pier has been a high priority for the City,” says City of Edmonds Public Works and Utilities Director Phil Williams. “We are so pleased to get this project underway so the pier can safely be enjoyed by residents and visitors to Edmonds this summer and for generations to come.“
The project is being funded by an $800,000 Capital Budget Direct Appropriation, a $500,000 Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account Grant and $100,000 from the City Parks Fund. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has provided invaluable assistance on this project with their ownership, collaboration and partnering on the grant funding.
