Scene in Edmonds: EWHS dad makes good on his Speedo run pledge

With the Edmonds-Woodway High School girls basketball headed to the Tacoma Dome Thursday, parent Mike Burdett agreed to make good on an earlier promise: If the Warriors, which had struggled to win games in the middle of the season, made it to the state 3A basketball tournament, he would run down Main Street wearing nothing but a Speedo bathing suit.

Burdett did just that Thursday, starting at 6th and Main and running all the way west to the waterfront as players, parents and friends cheered him on.

Prior to the run, Burdett greeted EWHS team members — including his twin daughters Mady and Ally — gathered near the fountain to watch the festivities prior to their trip to the state tournament.

The Warriors face Kamiakin in the first round of the State 3A tourney, with tip-off scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the Tacoma Dome.
