About an hour after resuming the search for Amy Kennelly Thursday morning, a woman’s body was discovered in the woods. This discovery was made about 100 yards from the location where her car had crashed on the night of Feb. 29. The area was heavily wooded.

“There is no evidence to suggest that the woman ended up in that location by any means but her own,” said Edmonds police spokesman Sgt. Shane Hawley. “No foul play is suspected in this case and the police department does not feel there is any danger to the public at this time.”

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has been called to respond to the scene. Final identification and cause of death are determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Edmonds Police Department is still at the location completing their investigation, Hawley said.

  1. I live very close to this area where this poor women laid undiscovered for two and one half days and nights. I feel very sad for the family and there is no explanation how this SHOULD have not happen.. Why did the police not search with search and rescue when she drove into the garage door. and was NOT at the site,
The news report said she hit the garage door @ 5:00pm on Monday evening. It was still light. There are many powerful outdoor lights that could have assisted in a searching the area and she found not far from where her car was. The police did not search for her at the site of the accident on Tuesday at all and towed her car and did not even look around. What is that about????? Then the police decide to look around when family called in and started looking late Wed afternoon. And claimed they could not see in the woods. If she walked back there it could not have been the hard to see. The police said she did that @ 5:00 pm on Monday. I have walked by this property for over 15 years and you can see into the woods.
So why did she die and how if she walked into the woods? ALSO THE GREAT AND WONDERFUL WOODWAY does have street lights and someday someone is going to be hit or a crash is going to happen and the Great City of Woodway should be liable. There needs to be street lights in Woodway. I live next to Woodway and the lack of street lighting is very very dangerous.
My Condolences to Any Kennelly ‘s family.

Please inform the community what has occurred in this quiet little DARK AREA..

    1. I too live by Woodway; streets too dark yup; what’s up… Woodway street lights an eyesore? So’s a dead body. Other’s believe your keeping us in the dark. You like DARK don’t ya. lame

  2. We routinely respond to hit and run collisions throughout the city. These often involve someone leaving the vehicle at the scene and walking off. Usually they walk/run from the area or call for a ride.

Search and Rescue is called out when we have a report of a missing person. In this case, on Monday night, we had a hit and run investigation (involving minor property damage) where the driver had left the scene. There was very minor damage to the car and no reason to suspect the driver was injured. We made multiple attempts to contact the owner of the car throughout that evening, including at her residence, without success. The fact that we couldn’t contact her did not generate concern for her well being, as this is often the case when someone flees the scene of a collision. Towing the vehicle is standard procedure after a hit and run collision.

When the family reported her as missing on Wednesday, we used the location as our initial starting point for the investigation. We also called out Search and Rescue with everyone remaining on-scene well into the night. It is standard practice that searches be suspended during the hours of darkness or inclement weather.

The search resumed first thing Thursday morning. Even under ideal weather conditions and with a search team that numbered over 30 people, it took over an hour to ultimately locate her in an area that is thickly wooded and contains a great deal of brush/undergrowth.

We would like to ask that everyone remain mindful of the fact that supposition and speculation, without knowing all the facts, does nothing to help the family while they deal with their loss.

  3. Can anyone help us understand how the Edmonds/Woodway Police contract works? Woodway has a police force and Edmonds does some form of backup. But how does that work and how is Edmonds compensated for work we do in Woodway?
