A bank robbery suspect was arrested after being cornered in a Fred Meyer store in Lynnwood.
The 46-year-old man from Mountlake Terrace was suspected in an aggressive armed robbery on Friday at a Heritage Bank in unincorporated Bothell.
Bank employees called police at about noon to report a man was in the safe taking money from the bank. The employees told police the suspect was “aggressive, threatening and armed with a handgun.”
Witnesses saw the man leave the bank on a bicycle. He had taken an undisclosed amount of cash.
As deputies were in route to the scene, calls came in about a suspicious van spotted nearby the bank. The deputies saw the van on 196th Street Southwest near I-5 in Lynnwood. The van pulled into the Fred Meyer parking lot located at 4615 196th St. SW. The driver got out and ran inside the Fred Meyer.
Officers from the Lynnwood Police Department assisted deputies in securing the store and locating the driver inside. Witnesses inside the store directed deputies to the grocery area, where the suspect was spotted. A store employee told deputies the suspect tossed what appeared to be a gun on the floor as he ran through the store.
The suspect was cornered and taken into custody without incident.
Additional evidence was gathered from the van.
The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County jail on one count of first degree robbery.
Investigators with the FBI say they have reason to believe this suspect is also wanted in connection with a Chase bank robbery in Lake Forest Park from Thursday. An investigation is ongoing to determine if there is a connection.
