Edmonds police Friday morning arrested a 21-year-old transient near the Edmonds Denny’s restaurant in the 8400 block of Highway 99 after he was found in possession of a truck and a handgun that had been stolen in Edmonds the day before.
According to Edmonds police spokesman Sgt. Shane Hawley, officers responded to a report of a man acting suspiciously in the restaurant parking lot around 7:30 a.m. Friday. When officers arrived, the man had already walked away, leaving behind the truck. The plates on the vehicle didn’t belong on it, so police ran the VIN number, and discovered the truck had been stolen in Edmonds the day before. Police also learned there was a handgun that had been left in the truck when it was stolen.
Lynnwood K-9 was called in to assist in tracking the suspect, who was found nearby and arrested within about 10 minutes. Lynnwood police also found the gun, which the suspect had apparently tossed as he left.
The suspect was booked into jail for possession of the stolen vehicle and firearm.
