Two Edmonds families benefit from annual Rampathon event

The Master Builders Association, Chermak Construction, Professional Women in Building and volunteers on Saturday built free ramps to assist two Edmonds families in need.

Edmonds-based Chermak Construction built a ramp for 34-year-old Richard Bell, who has a spinal cord injury. And Professional Women in Building constructed a ramp for 67-year-old Beverly Matson, a retired teacher who has had both hips replaced and finds stairs extremely difficult to maneuver.

A total of 37 families throughout King and Snohomish counties received the gift of greater mobility through the addition of new ramps during this year’s event — the largest Rampathon in the 23-year history of the event.

Since 1993, more than 370 ramps have been built and $1.7 million of in-kind donations provided, the Master Builders Association said.
