Wait Until Dark

Auditions!
Saturday/Sunday,
July 9/10
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Driftwood Players (Players) have put out an auditions call for their 2016-17 Season opening production, “Wait Until Dark” by Frederick Knott.

The auditions will be held on July 9 and 10 at the Driftwood Annex, 200 Dayton St., Edmonds. Callbacks are scheduled for Tuesday, July 12 from 7-10 p.m. Actors must be available for callbacks. The rehearsal schedule will be determined after casting.

For your audition, the Players request that you prepare two contrasting monologues approximately 1 minute in length each.

“Wait Until Dark” premiered in 1966 on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre with a cast that included Lee Remick, Robert Duvall and Mitchell Ryan.

Driftwood Players, currently in its 58th season, performs at the Wade James Theatre (950 Main St., Edmonds)

The Players provide this casting information for “Wait Until Dark”, which will open on Friday, Sept. 16 and run through Oct. 2:

Susy, Late 20s-35

Susy is a strong-willed but sensitive woman who struggles to adapt to both a new marriage and a new disability, after having lost her vision in a car accident. Although she can be rash, she is incredibly clever and more than capable of living independently – even if she often doubts it herself.

Sam, Late 20s-35

Susy’s husband Sam is a tough ex-military man who views the world unsentimentally. Although he has nothing but kind and loving intentions, he is strict and straightforward in sometimes abrasive ways.

Mike, 30-40

Mike is handsome, charming, and likeable – skills he uses to con his targets. Unlike his associates, he often empathizes with his targets; he is not a born con man, but rather fell into the criminal world due to personal bad habits, and is now desperate to erase his debts.

Carlino, 30-50

Carlino is a coarser sort of criminal who doesn’t give any thought to the morality of his career choice. Small-time cons are his specialty, and though he is not naturally cruel, he is content to do any job as long as he gets paid. He has a knack for impersonating police officers.

Roat, 30-50

Roat could be nothing other than a criminal. He takes pleasure in executing a well-crafted con, and he doesn’t care who he hurts or kills to succeed. He sees himself as a criminal mastermind and can effectively disguise himself and lay traps for his victims without feeling any remorse.

Gloria, 11-12

Gloria is Susy’s neighbor, a young girl who often has trouble reining in her early adolescent outbursts. She is headstrong and puts on a tough exterior, but reveals a sweeter side when she is with people she trusts.
