A new used car lot is now under construction on Highway 99 at 212th Street Southwest in Lynnwood.
The lot is planned to become a CarMax, which is the country’s largest used car retailer. There is currently only one CarMax location open in Washington. It is located in Spokane. However, the store in Lynnwood will likely not be the last–another is also under construction in Puyallup.
The Lynnwood location is expected to contain a one-story, 30,000-square-foot sales and service building, a 936-square-foot car wash and a .76-acre landscaped retention pond at 21301 Highway 99. The average height of the buildings will be 30 feet, including screening of rooftop equipment. A total of 589 parking stalls will be provided (402 for sales and 178 for customer/employees).
The location used to be home to Detroit Auto Works, and prior to that housed a Gold’s Gym and a Safeway store. The building located on the lot was demolished in 2014.
