Human remains found by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office in a vehicle underwater near the Mukilteo ferry dock last Friday, July 22 have been identified as a Lynnwood man who has been missing since August 2015.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner said Thursday the remains belong to 20 year-old Jose Sanchez Diaz. The medical examiner has taken custody of the remains and will determine cause and manner of death.
The remains were recovered during an early morning dive operation. The vehicle has not been recovered and an exact date for the recovery has not been set.
Sanchez Diaz’s red 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse was discovered by commercial divers under about 50 feet of water and approximately 100 feet from the end of the Mukilteo Ferry loading dock on Tuesday, July 12. The vehicle matched the one the victim was driving when he disappeared on Aug. 29, 2015.
