Assault charges have been filed against a man accused of attacking another man outside a Mountlake Terrace bar in June, which caused the victim to suffer head injuries that required him to be hospitalized for a month.

According to charging documents filed on Aug. 5, the suspect and victim were two of four people drinking at O’Houlies Pub, located at 21919 66th Ave. W. in Mountlake Terrace, during the early morning of Monday, June 6. Eventually, the four people drinking went outside. Ten minutes later, one of the bar patrons returned inside to tell employees that the victim was bleeding and unresponsive on the ground.

Surveillance video shows that during those 10 minutes, the victim put his pool cue in his car, then walked away. When he returned to the parking lot, the other three bar patrons were standing in the parking lot.

There is no audio on the surveillance video, court documents say, but it appears as though the four patrons began speaking to each other. Then the suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Brandon Knoth, takes a fighting stance and begins running around the victim.

Eventually, he walks away, but he appears to get agitated again and runs at the victim. Knoth is seen punching the victim in the face. The victim fell to the ground and sat on the ground for a “while” before returning to his feet. The victim then walked to the driver’s side of his car.

The suspect came around the vehicle and threw another punch before getting into a nearby car and leaving.

After the incident, the victim was taken to Swedish Edmonds and transported to Harborview. Charging documents say the victim suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and two skull fractures. He was listed as critical and taken for emergency surgery to decompress the bleeding in his head.

Doctors told investigators that “without prompt medical assistance, there is a likelihood the victim would have died,” according to court papers.

The victim was hospitalized for a month. His doctors told investigators that the victim’s coordination and balance may be affected for the rest of his life, though it is impossible to tell how much he would be effected until a few more months have passed.

Knoth is charged with first-degree assault and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Sept. 1 at 3 p.m.
