Hekinan delegates try a ‘taste of America’ at welcome dinner

Fresh off the plane from Japan and still in the throes of jet lag, the sister city delegation from Hekinan gathered at City Hall to be treated to an all-American picnic dinner courtesy of the Edmonds Sister City Commission.

The fare was unfamiliar to many, but it didn’t take much coaching to get the delegates to fill slider buns with pulled pork and slather on barbecue sauce like old ranch hands. The corn on the cob was a bit more of a challenge for at least one delegate, who tried to put it between the halves of a bun, but it all worked out in the end and a splendid time was had by all.

The 12-member sister city delegation will be in town through Aug. 16.
