Aug. 26 will mark the anniversary of the 1920 Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote. The League of Women Voters of Snohomish County is marking this historic event by encouraging citizens to prepare to participate in this year’s elections.

“With November fast approaching, now is the time to make sure you, and the people in your life, are registered to vote at your current address,” said Joan Smith, local League president. “Women’s Equality Day is all about celebrating what we all, as Americans, can do to build a better democracy.”

The League of Women Voters of Snohomish County will be sponsoring several candidate forums in the fall. “In addition, we will be partnering with other organizations and with many of the Sno-Isle libraries on Tuesday, Sept. 27, National Voter Registration Day, to help register new voters, or assist those who have had a change of address,” Smith said.

“Women who fought for decades for the right to vote understood the importance of that right in having a voice on critical issues facing their communities. Women’s Equality Day is the perfect time to prepare and commit to vote this year.”
