Downtown Edmonds again has a drive-up U.S. Post Office mail drop box, thanks largely to the efforts of Edmonds City Councilmember Dave Teitzel, Edmonds Postmaster Todd Merriman and Edmonds Head Librarian Richard Suico. The three worked together to find a new location for a drive-up mailbox after residents voiced concerns about the removal of the drive-up mailbox at the Second Avenue post office. The new drive-up mailbox is located next to the book-drop bins at the south side of the Edmonds Library in the 600 block of Dayton Street.
“We truly appreciate the Post Office’s recognition of the need for a drive-up mailbox near the downtown area to address the needs of people with mobility issues, and we are grateful for their cooperation in working with us to identify a safe and convenient location for its placement,” said City Councilmember Dave Teitzel, who spearheaded the effort to relocate the drop box.
Teitzel began searching for new mailbox locations after the former downtown drive-up mailbox was removed from its location on Second Avenue adjacent to the old U.S. Post Office on Main Street. The new Post Office facility does not include a drive-up mailbox. The next closest drive-up mail collection boxes are at the Perrinville Station at 7601 Olympic View Drive and the Lynnwood Post Office at 6817 208th St. S.W.
“This is an excellent example of local government officials and community leaders working together to quickly respond to residents’ needs,” adds Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling. “I’d like to thank all those involved for addressing this public concern so efficiently and effectively.”
Thank you Mr Teitzel for doing such a productive job, as many people liked the old location, and this is a good place to move the postbox to.
Well done. Thanks Dave.
Thank you. One suggestion is to make the post office pick up later than 2:00pm. On workdays, since this is the only drive up mail box location in the city, 5pm as the normal, last pick up of mail would be a huge help.
