Meadowdale Mavericks Colin Knechtel and Cameron Sanders each grabbed top 10 finishes in the boys division of the 7th annual Sehome Invitational, a prep cross country event held Saturday at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.
Knechtel placed seventh in the junior division with a time of 10:50.00 while Sanders ran to an eighth place finish in the senior division with a time of 10.36.00.
Lynnwood Royal Malia Pivec topped a field of 176 runners and easily won the girls senior division. Pivec completed the 3200 meter course in a time of 11:41.00, bettering the second-place finisher Katherine Slack of Kamiak by 43 seconds.
Pivec finished seventh in the 3A girls state cross country championships last year and is looking to put together another stellar season for this, her senior year at Lynnwood.
Lynnwood scored enough points to place fifth in the boys senior division team standings; the Lynnwood girls finished 12th in their senior/junior division team standings. The Sehome Mariners captured both the boys senior team and the girls senior/junior team titles at the event.
