Update: Crews work to restore power after pole fire

Updated at 10:52 a.m.

A pole top fire knocked out power on Saturday morning to about 1,000 customers — both residences and businesses — in the vicinity of Second and Dayton Street. Snohomish Public Utility District de-energized the lines to allow fire crews to extinguish the blaze. Edmonds police closed the block between Second and Third Avenues while crews made repairs.

Snohomish County PUD spokesman Neil Neurotsos said that power was restored to all but about 40 customers as of 10:45 a.m. Saturday morning. Complete restoration was expected by afternoon, he added.

Service on Washington State Ferries continued uninterrupted. According to WSF spokesman Nicola Zanchi, the ferry kiosks run on generator power so are not affected by local power outages.

The tennis “bubble” at Harbor Square Athletic Club was deflated because there was no power to run the blowers that inflate it, a club employee said.

An exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
