Ferry crew rescues kite surfer off Marina Beach Friday

A crew from the Washington State Ferry Puyallup was pressed into service Friday morning to rescue a kite surfer off Edmonds’ Marina Beach, according to Washington State Ferries and Snohomish County Fire District 1 reports.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said that Fire District 1 crews were called to the beach around 10:45 a.m. for a report of a kite surfer in distress about 500 to 1,000 yards offshore. The Puyallup, which services the Edmonds-Kingston ferry run, launched its rescue boat to pick up the woman kite surfer and brought her to shore, said Ian Sterling of the Washington State Ferries.

The woman was reported to be fine and didn’t require medical attention, Sterling said.
