skateboard-accidentA 17-year-old Mountlake Terrace man longboarding down a street in Edmonds’ Westgate neighborhood was transported to Swedish Edmonds Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday night after he struck the side of a vehicle.

According to Edmonds police spokesman Sgt. Shane Hawley, witnesses said the teen was riding his longboard westbound on 228th Street in the middle of the street just after 6 p.m. Tuesday when he collided with a mid-sized SUV, driven by a 60-year-old Edmonds man. The teen’s head hit the windshield of the vehicle, which was traveling northbound on 95th Place West and had the right of way.

According to witnesses, the longboarder was traveling at 20-25 mph and went into the intersection without slowing, Hawley added.
