The field is set for the 2016 District 1 3A Volleyball Tournament and the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors are in; unfortunately for the Meadowdale Mavericks, they are not.
The Warriors and the Mavericks both needed victories Thursday night to earn a spot into the district tourney that begins Nov. 1. E-W picked up theirs at over Oak Harbor 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 26-25) in a district tournament loser-out match played at Edmonds-Woodway High School.
Missy Peterson led E-W with 16 kills; the senior added three aces in the victory.
With the win, the Warriors move into the double-elimination portion of the district tourney and will face no. 1 Arlington on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Arlington High School. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Meadowdale didn’t fare as well Thursday, falling in their loser-out match to the Ferndale Golden Eagles 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-17) at Meadowdale High School. With the loss, the Mavs’ season ends with an overall record of 8-7.
Joining the Warriors in the postseason are the Lynnwood Royals, who had already punched their ticket to the district tournament by finishing second in the 2A/3A Wesco League regular season standing. The no. 2-seeded Royals will host their their first round district match against the Shorewood T-Birds on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
