From the Publisher’s Desk: Gratitude

TeresaAs Thanksgiving draws near, I want to take a moment to offer thanks for those readers who have stepped up with an annual voluntary subscription of $12 a month or more. As a reminder, I pledged on Nov. 11 to donate 10 percent of those subscriptions to our local food banks, and thanks to you, so far we have raised nearly $150 for that cause. This pledge is good through Dec. 31, and you can subscribe here.

I also want to say thank you to all in our community who give so generously of their time and talents as volunteers to many worthwhile organizations locally. Many of these local groups — from arts organizations to those who feed, clothe and shelter families in need — are included on the list of non-profits who will benefit from Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving. This year, Giving Tuesday falls on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Please place this day on your calendar, and donate generously to our local organizations. You can find a directory of all those who are participating by visiting this page: www.givingtuesday.org/whats-happening-near-me.

I am also thankful for the amazing folks who are responsible for gathering the news, taking photos and providing a variety of other essential services — from sales to marketing to technical support — for our three websites in South Snohomish County. We are so fortunate to have many high-powered yet community-focused people working for us.

Finally, one last reminder as we enter the holidays. We encourage you to shop local, starting with those businesses participating in Small Business Saturday on Nov. 26. However, if your shopping also includes a visit to Amazon.com, can you please enter using this link? You pay the same price as if you went directly to Amazon, but we get a small commission on any purchases you make. It’s an easy way to support community journalism from your trusted news source in Edmonds.

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving weekend with family and friends.

Until next time.

  1. Just clicked on the Amazon link (see upper right-hand corner of welcome page) and bookmarked it for future Amaon purchases. Thanks for all My Edmonds News brings us!

  2. The Lynnwood 2016 5k Turkey Trot and Food Drive is tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day, starting at 8AM
at the Lynnwood Park and Ride. You can still sign up at the race tomorrow. This benefits the Lynnwood Food Bank.

  3. THANK YOU, Teresa, for all you do for the Edmonds community!! MEN gives us the ability to understand who lives around us, showcases the many talents of our residents, highlights local businesses, gives us news of our local government, and not only taps into the antics of our wildlife, but also gives a shout-out when a much-loved-furry-one goes missing from our home. You and your staff are awesome!

  4. Thanks, Teresa, for your great service to our community. I hope subscriptions continue to pour in.
I want to wish you a happy Thanksgiving and hope you get some well-deserved time off on turkey day.
