Annual Toy Shop event serves families in need

Parents who otherwise couldn’t afford Christmas presents for their families gathered at Edmonds United Methodist Church Saturday to shop for toys, bikes, books and warm coats during the church’s annual Toy Shop event.

Approximately 300 families and 1,000 kids will benefit from the event, which serves parents in need who are already receiving services through the Edmonds Food Bank and Washington Kids In Transition.

More tha 200 volunteers from the church and the community served as personal shoppers for parents as they selected a new toy, a gently used toy, a stuffed animal, a book and wrapping paper for each child. Bicycles and coats were also available.

Members of Boy Scout Troop 212 assisted families with transporting and loading gifts into awaiting cards.
