Congressman gets first-hand look at Edmonds Street Waterfront Connector

Following up on their meeting in Washington, D.C. last week, Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling and U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (D -2nd District) toured the proposed site of the Edmonds Street Waterfront Connector, recently approved by the Edmonds City Council (see My Edmonds News coverage here).

Last week Larsen met with Earling and other City of Edmonds officials in his Washington, D.C. office to talk about the city’s application for a FASTLANE grant to help fund the project. The grant program is part of the FAST Act, which Larsen helped pass in 2015.

The proposal is the end result of a 14-month alternatives study to address the increasingly acute problem of accessing the Edmonds waterfront area west of the BNSF tracks. Spearheaded by the Mayor’s Waterfront Access Advisory Task Force, the study extensively engaged the community through print, social media, online resources and four public meetings.

The council-approved proposal comprises an overpass linking Sunset Avenue to Brackett’s Landing Park that will help mitigate congestion and improve public safety, provide 24/7 emergency access, maintain reliable access to the ferry system, parks, restaurants and businesses, and provide a safe and convenient route for pedestrians and bicyclists.
