Scene in Edmonds: Backyard wildlife

Photographer Ken Pickle said he loves this time of year because of all the wildlife that show up in his Edmonds backyard. This is just a sampling.

  1. Good shots, Ken. I looked up rabbits in my guide to mammals and found none native to our area. I was subsequently told that the rabbits we see are eastern cottontails that were introduced back in the 1920’s and 30s.’

  2. I haven’t seen any of these down in the Bowl, and I’m glad to know they still exist in Edmonds (except for the rabbits).

  3. I had a year-old raccoon several days (late afternoon) last week, but haven’t seen him since. And a female black-headed grosbeak at one of my suet feeders. Interesting about the rabbits. Have a great Fourth!

  4. Ken, Thanks for the great pics! If every backyard in Edmonds could be a wildlife sanctuary like yours, it might help compensate for the ongoing deforestation that’s going on across the city.
