Floretum Garden Club readies holiday wreaths, swags for weekend sale

Looking for great one-of-a-kind decor to dress up your home for the holidays? Do you like the fresh, festive aroma that newly-cut greens bring to your rooms? Want to support your community at the same time? Then get down to this weekend’s Holiday Flair Boutique in the Art Works at Second and Dayton and head for the Edmonds Floretum Garden Club table.

Hours are noon-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Club members have been busy since mid-week feverishly assembling a range of decorations to suit every taste and budget, many utilizing plant materials you won’t find in commercially-produced products. How about a dried hydrangea head to dress up a large wreath? For a small table-topper, a sprig or two of cotoneaster with red berries substituted for the traditional holly adds color and interest without being overpowering.

Each wreath and swag is hand-made by Floretum volunteers, and every one is different, ensuring a unique and festive touch for your home that’s sure to draw compliments from your holiday guests.

All Floretum decor goes on sale starting at noon Friday at the Holiday Flair Boutique located in the Art Works studio at Second and Dayton. The boutique runs through Saturday, but with prices for most Floretum wreaths and decor between $10 and $20 they’re sure to go fast, so get there early for the best selection. Proceeds stay right in the community, supporting the Floretum Scholarship Fund, club-sponsored workshops on planting, gardening and nature, and the ongoing work of the club.

Organized in 1922, the Floretum Club remains a premier force in beautifying Edmonds through public plantings, sponsoring education workshops, and providing an annual scholarship for horticulture students. Learn more about the Edmonds Floretum Garden Club at their website.
