Singers, warm up your vocal chords. The City of Edmonds and the Edmonds Downtown Alliance (ED!) on Dec. 7 are sponsoring the first-ever Edmonds Holiday Caroling Contest: Jingle Those Bells!

The event is scheduled for 6-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Red Twig outdoor patio on 5th Avenue South in downtown Edmonds. It’s an opportunity for amateur singers, wannabe singers and even not-so-great singers to get together with friends, family and colleagues and compete in a fun, light-hearted caroling contest.

Groups of up to a dozen folks can easily be accommodated in the patio space, but small groups are welcome as well. The contest will be able to accommodate five groups, and each group will be expected to sing two carols. And to make things even more festive, each group should come up with a catchy, holiday-themed name.

Those interested in participating can send an email to Royce Napolitino at royce.napolitino@edmondswa.gov with the number of carolers in the group, what two carols will be sung, and what the caroling group’s “stage name” will be.  Deadline for submittal of emails indicating interest is noon Monday, Nov. 27.

“Over the past few years more fun and activities have been added to the holiday season to make Downtown Edmonds an even more attractive destination for the holidays,” said Edmonds Economic Development Director Patrick Doherty. “It’s all a part of the joint holiday promotional campaign the City and Ed! are collaborating on to encourage locals and visitors to visit Downtown Edmonds for the holidays — this year with the slogan ‘Create Your Tradition.’”

Other City of Edmonds and ED! holiday activities include the free Holiday Trolley, scheduled to run Saturdays in December from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Holiday Market running Dec. 2, 9 and 16; a free holiday movie for the kids Friday, Dec. 8 (cartoons at 4 p.m., movie 5:30 p.m.); and the Edmonds-Woodway High School jazz and brass ensembles performances on Thursday evenings, Dec. 14 and 21 at 6 p.m. on the Red Twig patio.

And don’t forget the annual Edmonds Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 25, with festivities beginning at 3:30 p.m.
