Angela Harris takes her seat on Port of Edmonds Commission; Faires, Johnston also sworn in

Newly-elected Port of Edmonds District 1 Commissioner Angela Harris took her place on the dais in the Port of Edmonds Commission meeting room Wednesday morning, Dec. 27, after being sworn in for her first term.

Harris, a senior business program manager at Microsoft, defeated long-time incumbent Port Commissioner Fred Gouge in November following a hotly contested campaign that centered on the future of the Edmonds Marsh.  Harris’s family members as well as some of her election supporters were in the room to watch her being sworn in.

Also sworn in Wednesday were District 3 Commissioner Bruce Faires and At-Large Commissioner Steve Johnston. Faires was re-elected after beating challenger Lora Petso while Johnston defeated opponent Susan Paine to keep the seat he had been appointed to following the retirement of Port Commissioner Mary Lou Block.

During Wednesday’s short business meeting following the swearing-in ceremony, Johnston thanked former Commissioner Gouge for his many years of service.
