Edmonds Municipal Court Judge Linda W.Y. Coburn joined 18 newly elected or appointed municipal court judges from throughout Washington at a swearing-in ceremony conducted by Washington Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Fairhurst at the Temple of Justice in Olympia Dec. 11

Municipal court judges are elected every four years in Washington cities under two circumstances: In cities with more than 400,000 residents, or if the court is established by city leaders to require election of judges. In other cases, municipal court judges are appointed by city officials.

Coburn was first appointed to bench in January 2015. She recently was elected to a four year-term unopposed. “It is a privilege to serve the community I have resided in for over 25 years,” Coburn said. “I will continue to look for ways to improve access to justice for all and ensure that Edmonds is well served by its municipal court.”

Coburn also is a member of the District and Municipal Court Judges Association Governing Board and a member of the Washington State Supreme Court Minority and Justice Commission. Coburn also is a member of the Washington Pretrial Reform Task Force and the commission’s Jury Diversity Task Force.
