Edmonds Family Medicine now part of Virginia Mason

Edmonds Family Medicine, the largest family medicine practice group serving north King and south Snohomish counties, is now part of the Virginia Mason organization in a planned change in ownership initially announced last November.

“We are very excited to welcome this accomplished and well-respected group practice into our health system,” said Virginia Mason Health System Chairman and CEO Gary S. Kaplan, MD.

Virginia Mason’s acquisition of the medical practice group was unanimously approved by Edmonds Family Medicine shareholders last fall. Established in 1975, the family practice group has more than 25 physicians, four of whom also have faculty positions at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

“Like Edmonds Family Medicine, Virginia Mason is focused on high quality and appropriate care, and is committed to improving care delivery and enhancing the patient experience,” said Andrew Thurman, MD, president, Edmonds Family Medicine, in a letter to patients.

There are no plans to move Edmonds Family Medicine from its current location. When specialty care is required, Edmonds Family Medicine providers will work with their patients as they always have to determine where he or she should be referred based on the type of care needed, patient preferences and insurance coverage.

Many Virginia Mason specialists see patients at the nearby Virginia Mason Lynnwood Medical Center. Like Edmonds Family Medicine, Virginia Mason is included in most medical insurance plans available in the Puget Sound region.

Also, Edmonds Family Medicine will continue to offer walk-in clinic services for individuals with urgent medical needs. The walk-in clinic is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We look forward to continuing to provide our patients with the same high-quality care they have come to expect at Edmonds Family Medicine,” Dr. Thurman said.

Over the next several months, signage and letterhead stationery will reflect the new name of the medical practice: Virginia Mason Edmonds Family Medicine.

The addition of Edmonds Family Medicine expands Virginia Mason’s network of outpatient care facilities, which are located at the medical center’s main campus in the First Hill neighborhood of Seattle; University Village near the University of Washington; Lynnwood; Bellevue; Kirkland; Issaquah; Bainbridge Island; and Federal Way.
