Edmonds-Woodway orchestra director named next president of Washington Music Educators Association


Edmonds-Woodway High School Orchestra Director Karen Helseth has been elected as the next president of the Washington Music Educators Association. Helseth was elected during the WMEA state conference last weekend in Ellensburg.

Also during the conference, College Place Middle School Band Director Kate Labiak was selected as the Sno-King Music Educators Educator of the Year. The award was presented by WMEA Past President Scott Barnes, who serves as the school district’s visual and performing arts manager.

WMEA represents over 1,500 music educators statewide and runs the WMEA State Conferences, national music educators division conferences, All-State and All-NW Honor Groups, and the WIAA/WMEA State Solo-Ensemble contest.
