Both directions of 3rd Avenue North were closed at Bell Street for several hours Saturday after the wind pushed over a utility pole at the intersection.

Crews were working to repair the pole before noon on Saturday. The road was reopened around 5 p.m.

The damage to the pole was reported at 10:40 a.m. Saturday. No vehicle reportedly hit the pole, according to Edmonds police Sgt. Shane Hawley, but the high winds were enough to compromise the aging pole at the ground level.

  1. When we walk around our city we see many old power poles that need immediate replacement or we’re likely to have much more serious incidents than what happened this morning. This needs to be a higher priority for the PUD.
