Prep sports roundup: Warriors move into 1st place with boys soccer win


In a clash for the top spot in the 3A Wesco League, the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors used a late goal from Andrew Shin to defeated the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks 2-1 Friday at QuilCeda Stadium in Marysville.

Shin scored in the 72nd minute to break a 1-1 deadlock and propel the Warriors to the win and sole possession of first place in the 3A Wesco League standings.

Hussen Ahmed had given E-W an early lead with a first-half goal, but the Tomahawks’ Daniel Valadez opened the second half scoring with a goal to tie the match before Shin’s late-game heroics.

With the victory, the Warriors have won six in a row and have outscored their opponents 19-3 during the streak.

In other E-W sports results from Friday, the Warrior baseball team shutout Marysville-Pilchuck 6-0, the Lady Warrior softball squad thumped Shorecrest 13-2 and the girls tennis team fell to Shorecrest 4-3.
